Before You Start / Safety
This guide is preventive maintenance for NB weatherstrips. It does not replace mechanical correction when seals no longer align due to shrunken top material, stretched tension cables, drain blockage, or window adjustment issues.

Required Tools
- Soft microfiber cloths
- Soft detailing brush
- Mild car-safe cleaner diluted in water
- Rubber-safe weatherstrip conditioner/protectant
- Flashlight
Required Parts / Fluids
- Replacement seal clips/sections if physically torn
- Optional replacement weatherstrips (if hardened/split)
Model-specific notes (NB1 vs NB2)
- NB1/NB2 share the same weatherstrip maintenance logic (clean, inspect, condition, then verify seal contact).
- Seal wear patterns vary with age, top brand, and whether the car runs hardtop/soft-top seasonally.

Step-by-Step Procedure
1) Dry inspection before cleaning
Inspect door glass contact areas, top side seals, and header seal for:
- flattening/hardening,
- tears or splits,
- obvious gaps at corners,
- trapped debris that can wick water.
2) Gentle cleaning pass
Wipe seals with damp microfiber and mild cleaner. Use a soft brush only where grime is embedded.
Do not use aggressive solvents on seal rubber.
3) Condition rubber surfaces lightly
Apply a thin, even layer of rubber-safe conditioner to clean, dry seals. Let it absorb, then wipe off excess so it does not attract dust.
4) Check related leak causes before blaming seals alone
If leaks persist, inspect window alignment, top tension, and drains.

5) Controlled water test
Use low-pressure water over the header and side seals, then check inside for drips. If leak source is unclear, retest one area at a time.
6) Decide maintenance vs replacement
- If seals are soft/intact and leaks improve after cleaning/conditioning: continue periodic maintenance.
- If seals are split/hardened or leaks persist despite alignment/drain checks: plan seal replacement and related adjustment work.
Torque Specs / Capacities
- No torque/capacity values apply to routine weatherstrip cleaning/conditioning.
- For door glass/frame/latch adjustments, use year/VIN FSM procedures and values.
Verification / Post-service checks
- Seals look clean, pliable, and uniformly seated
- Reduced wind noise at common seal interfaces
- No fresh drips after low-pressure water test
- Drains flow normally under the car
Uncertainty / Open Questions
- Public sources strongly agree on gentle cleaning and avoiding harsh chemicals, but product chemistry varies by conditioner brand.
- Community reports indicate many “seal leaks” are actually alignment/tension/drain issues; this guide therefore emphasizes diagnosis before parts replacement.
- Source access remained limited in this environment; exact OEM rubber-care chemistry specs were not consistently retrievable.
