Before You Start
Work on a level surface and ensure the engine is warm, not hot. A warm engine drains faster and carries more contaminants out with the old oil.
Required Tools
- 14 mm socket and ratchet
- Oil filter wrench
- Drain pan (at least 6 L)
- Funnel
Required Materials
- 4.0 L engine oil (5W-30 is common for most climates)
- Replacement oil filter
- New sump plug washer
Step-by-Step
1. Raise and secure the front of the car
Use ramps or a jack and stands on stable points. Confirm the car is stable before getting underneath.
2. Drain the old oil
Place the drain pan under the sump plug, remove the plug, and allow oil to drain fully.
Warning: oil may still be hot enough to burn skin.
3. Replace the filter
Remove the old filter, wipe the sealing surface, lightly oil the new filter gasket, and install hand-tight.
4. Reinstall the sump plug
Fit a new crush washer and tighten the sump plug to specification.
Torque spec: 30-40 Nm
5. Refill and verify
Refill with fresh oil, start the engine for 20-30 seconds, then check for leaks. Stop the engine, wait 5 minutes, and set the final oil level at the dipstick.
Post-Service Checklist
- Confirm no leaks at filter and drain plug
